Crufts Obedience Championships
Judge: Lyn Tozer

For all of my life dogs have played a huge part. As a young girl I walked miles through woods and across fields with a G.S.D. at my side, it became a very comforting feeling. My parents Madge & Ralph Smart were both competing, instructing and judging in obedience and working trials. When attending dog club with them I would beg steal or borrow anyones dog to train.
In my early working career one of the best jobs I had was working for a veterinary surgeon. It was a one man practice and before the time of veterinary nurses. So I helped with everything from operations, assisting in the surgery through to the administration side. I loved every aspect of it and gained a substantial amount of knowledge.
In 1971 I married Mick who was at that time competing in breed and obedience with an Afghan Hound. In 1972 we went to Crufts for the first time, it was being held at Olympia, London back then.. With only 2 rows of wooden seating around the obedience ring, we had even been known to queue all night outside on the pavement to ensure a seat, so glad we don't have to do that now.
The Championships inspired me to take-up obedience seriously. I believe Crufts Obedience Championships is the best showcase we have for obedience.
I first competed in the championships in 1984 with SODA POP who retired at Crufts in 1986 the same year that my husband Mick qualified with his bitch CHALKWELL TIPSY POP and I continued competing at the Championships with OB.CH. SUPA POP , then OB CH DARKBECK KRACKER POP, "Kracker" went on to win Crufts Bitch Obedience Championships in 1994, then came OB.CH. DARKBECK PICK OF THE POPS, followed by OB.CH. MALULANI JAZZY POP . Culminating in 20 years of competing at Crufts Obedience Bitch Championships.
I have always enjoyed the championships and have not missed one whether competing or just spectating for the last 39 years. It's incredible to think that the 40th year I am attending Crufts is the year I am judging the Championships. The dogs I have at the moment are "Riot" (OB. CH. MALULANI JAZZY POP) who is 15, she retired at Crufts 2006, "Shambles" WHATKNOW POP TONIC winner of 2 CC's in 2011 and I am so looking forward to working her at Crufts Bitch Championships 2013, "Klik" SMARTIE'S KLIKA POP working B and a young predominantly white collie "TIZZY" ( n.a.f.) born October 2011.who is currently working everyone in the house to a frazzle!
I started judging in 1978 and awarded my first challenge certificate in 2002. I have also enjoyed the good fortune to judge in Holland the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man.
To be invited to judge the Obedience Championships has taken a time to "sink-in", it is a huge responsibility and honour to be given the opportunity to judge the best obedience dogs and bitches in the country today.
Hopefully I have set a test that dog and handler can enjoy and also keep the spectators interested.
Finally I would like to wish all competitors an enjoyable Crufts Obedience Championships

I was born in West Bromwich, West Midlands but now live in a village near Milton Keynes with my husband Roy and son James were we run our Commercial Landscaping company, this keeps me very busy doing all the administrative work.
I started in competitive obedience in 1982 not with a dog but by caller stewarding or score boarding nearly every weekend for various judges, then in 1984 I bought, with help from a very good friend a Brown & White Working Sheepdog known as Ozzy (Oswald Megan’s Pride). Ozzy and I attended what to me was then one of the best Dog Training Clubs in the country – Lichfield & District DTS soon I was taking classes and competing with my dog going from Beginners to C. It was while competing in C at Northants show that I met my now husband Roy and soon moved to Milton Keynes. Roy’s competitiveness soon rubbed off onto me and in 1991 me and Ozzy won our first CC. The next dog to enter into my life was Chezzi (Ob.Ch Chalkwell Chezzi O.W) we competed at Crufts on 5 consecutive occasions and our greatest accomplishment was coming 4th in 2001. Chezzi was retired at Crufts 2002 and in 2003 I competed there with Chezzi’s nephew Chalki (Ob.Ch Chalkwell Chunki Chalki O.W) and went on to compete there every year until 2007 when Chalki was retired. I decided to have a change from Working Sheepdogs and a GSD named Buddi (Chalkwell Golden Buddi) became part of the family, he competed up to C then decided it was all a bit too much for him so I retired him.
I decided to go back to what I understand best, a Working Sheepdog and are currently working Razzy (Dodgin Razzy Razcal) who I believe has been on this earth before, his enthusiasm to work is unbelievable and would work all day every day if I had the energy.
Competing is not the only thing I love about my hobby; I also like judging, scribing, caller stewarding, and score boarding in fact almost anything to do with the Obedience sport, I have qualified to judge Championship C and awarded my first CC in 2001 I first started judging in 1992 and have judged every year since and have also judged in Guernsey, Holland & Belgium.
To say that I’m excited to be judging the Inter-Regional competition at Crufts would be an understatement, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Kennel Club Crufts Committee and all the people involved for entrusting me with this appointment and of course “Our Dogs” who sponsor the Inter-regional competition.
I have set straight forward rounds thus enabling the competitors to hopefully relax and enjoy the competition. My team are exceptionally experienced so everyone will be in incredibly safe hands.
I feel honoured and privileged to be able to judge this event and would like to ensure all competitors that me and my team will do all that they can to make this experience a memorable one.
Be happy, Anita Neal

OBEDIENCE WORLD CUP
Judge: Marcel Guibout

I was born on a farm in Grouville, Jersey in the Channel Islands during the Second World War when the Islands were occupied. My parents were both French, my dad had been in Jersey from childhood, my Mum came to the Island when she was about 18years old.
Married for 45years to Agnes who hails from Bonnie Scotland, we have three children and four grandchildren. We love the Island and enjoy living here.
I have competed and judged in Dog obedience for over 40years in the Islands and in the UK. Border Collies have always been my favourite breed, right from when I got my first dog ‘Pax’ . When I first had Pax, I didn’t know anything about obedience, getting him initially as an extra pair of eyes & ears, the reason being that I was a caretaker of a school and he would let me know if there was anyone lurking around the premises and this he certainly did!! A parent who came to the school suggested I should take Pax to obedience classes and that was the start of my life in Competitive Obedience.
Over the years I have had 6 dogs taking 5 of them to Championship ‘C’ which coming from the Islands is not very easy, as we don’t have many shows, therefore I have to travel to the UK when possible which is not very often now. In the last few years it has been during our summer holidays when we have combined that with shows at the weekends.
We have made many friends over the years in the obedience world, both old and new and some of them will be assisting me on the day, along with some members of my family and I would like them to know how much I appreciate this.
I was very honoured to have been invited by the Kennel Club to judge the Obedience World Cup, I never for a moment thought I would have been given this opportunity. Having competed in this event 3 times for Jersey, it will give me a different perspective of this competition.
Good Luck to all the Countries competing
Enjoy your day!

The KC Good Citizen Dog Scheme
Special Pre-Beginner Obedience
Stakes Final
Judge: Robert Harlow

I was very honored to be asked by the Kennel Club to judge both the YKC Obedience Finals and the Good Citizen Dog Scheme Special Pre -Beginner Stakes Final at Crufts 2012. For me personally this is very special as this is where I started as a pet handler and a junior.
I started my obedience career way back in 1972 with my neighbour’s dog Smokey, a small cross breed and attended Heron Hill DTC in Belvedere. Smokey was followed two years later by my German Shepherd PRINZ (who never did stays) but lived to be 19 ½ years and was a very special dog to me.
In 1978 I was given a smooth coated collie puppy called MOSS. He was my first dog to qualify for Championship Obedience but sadly died of epilepsy at the tender age of two, having only worked one ticket class. At this time I joined North West Kent DTC where one of the members Viv Spinks had a litter of puppies from her Border Collie bitch Kapia Whisp at Bordobe to Shanvall’s Pride, and from this litter came Taffy (aka BORDOBE CRAG). Taffy qualified for ticket at a young age, won three Reserve CC’s, competed in the Inter-Regional Obedience competition at Crufts in 1988 but sadly never gained that elusive CC.
Since then I have qualified for ticket OVERDOWN JEAHD, FLYNNE, TAPPIN OUT THE MAGIC and have won a CC with JETRIL LITTLE’UN in 1988.
I was very lucky as a young boy to have been able to train under some of the great trainers of the day. Charlie Wyant, Bill Shackleton, Gladys Heurman, Carol Truman and of course my long time friend and surrogate mum Sylvia Bishop who has and still does, continue to teach me so much.
I first started judging Obedience in the early 1980’s and to date, have awarded 10 sets of Obedience Certificates since my first ticket appointment in 1996. I have also judged in the Channel Islands, Ireland, France, Holland, Switzerland, Canada, USA and China. I am also a keen follower of the Good Citizen Dog Scheme since its inception, having partaken with my own dogs, and took part in the first ever Silver Award test in 1998. I have also judged the GCDS Special Pre-Beginner heats on several occasions.
My work within the Obedience world has also included being part of the KC Obedience Council Sub Committee, KCAI Board, Field Officer, Breeder Affiliate Group, Judges Working Party and England Team and World Cup Manager.
Since I was very young I have always shown dogs in the Breed ring and in the late 1980's along with Joanna Hill, I imported my first Australian Shepherd from the USA. I have also shown and bred Border Collies in partnership with Sue Large and in both breeds have had great success making up multiple champions.
While there have been so many people who have contributed in so many ways, I would like to say a special thank you to Joanna Hill, John Higgins, Kay Raven and Nigel Cutts.
Today, I lead a very hectic life now running my companies and am very fortunate to have a strong supportive group around me which, in the past few years has been so important. To all of you thank you!!
The dog world has given me a wonderful career that has enabled me to travel all over the world judging and teaching, it has also enabled me to have a very successful business both here and abroad and above all a wonderful group of friends.
I am really looking forward to judging at Crufts and would like to wish everyone the very best of luck.
